Being a founding member of the Rarebreed team represents life coming full circle for me. Working with our veterinary partners gives me a platform for combining my financial acumen, management experience, lifelong compassion for animals, and genuine commitment to the wellbeing of people around me.
My earliest memories prominently feature the stray kittens our family fed and helped to find homes for. Our dogs and cats were integral parts of our household; they strengthened the bonds of our family through their joyful presence that brought happiness to us every day. As a child, little did I know to what extent that human-animal bond would help me navigate the greatest challenge of my life. As a junior in college I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma; to help me cope, my parents surprised me with Jackson, a black Labrador retriever puppy. In doing so, they provided me with a loyal companion who was by my side during my treatments, providing the comfort and unconditional love that helped me become a cancer survivor. I feel very fortunate and give back to my community by being a Board member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and have spent over 25 years inspiring cancer patients and supporting research.
In 2012, I resigned from a New York-based hedge fund where I was a successful portfolio manager. My wife felt Maine would provide a better work-life balance for us and allow me to spend more time with my family. After five years of being an entrepreneur and investor in various companies, I met Dan Espinal, who shared his vision for Rarebreed. Together with a growing and brilliant team, I am so excited to be a part of a company that is prioritizing positive work environments and collaborative culture throughout our veterinary clinics. Our mission is to take care of the people who take care of animals – this is core to Rarebreed and is integral to the long-term success shared with our partners.
