I remember the exact day I realized what I wanted to do with my life – June 21, 1993 – I was attending my first NASCAR race at Michigan Speedway and was blown away, not with the racing, but with the variety of corporations involved through sponsorship.
When the fall semester started at Kent State University in my native Ohio, I had a new major and a goal to work in the racing industry.
After an internship at Watkins Glen Speedway in upstate New York, I accepted a position as a Public Relations Manager for a NASCAR Xfinity team and relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ultimately, I became a Team Manager and found my stride. Running a race team required experience in many facets of business and was a challenging role. I thrived being an integral member of the team. I loved knowing my efforts during the week directly correlated to our success at the racetrack. Teamwork was not just a catchphrase; it was a mindset and the key to success.
Since racing required weekend travel, it wasn’t the ideal job to have as a Mom to two young girls so when an opportunity presented itself to return to my husband’s home state of Maine, we made the decision to relocate.
I first heard of Rarebreed from a friend and was immediately drawn to their vision that employees are the most important asset and by Rarebreed’s desire to build a meaningful company that adds value to the lives of all involved. So impressed, that I forwarded my resume, unsolicited, hoping they could use someone with my skill set. Thankfully they did!
When asked if I miss racing my answer up to now has been yes – I missed being part of a team, of working with others to achieve a common goal and knowing my efforts made a difference. I’m happy to say that is no longer the case since I became a valued member of the Rarebreed team!
I reside in North Yarmouth, Maine with my husband, Andy, daughters Sara and Samantha, and my four-legged little man, Scout. I enjoy watching live sporting events, I coach my daughter’s softball team, am on the Board for the Cumberland North Yarmouth Little League and am an Assistant Girl Scout Troop Leader. I am rarely found without a book in my hand and when I can carve out personal time, I enjoy, going to country music concerts, working jigsaw puzzles and cross-stitching gifts for family and friends.
